Sony announced three new Cybershot digital cameras, the DSC-TX9 and the DSC-WX5 that are the world’s smallest 3D cameras, and the Cybershot DSC-T99 to its affordable T-series.
The Cybershot DSC-TX9 and Cybershot DSC-WX5 digital cameras incorporate Sony’s 3D technology of 3D Sweep Panorama which lets you take panoramic pictures in one press-and-sweep motion and can be enjoyed in 2D or on compatible 3D televisions, and Sweep Multi Angle, which captures 15 images at different angles and then compiles them into one photo, creating a 3D-like effect on the display. Both also feature 12.2-megapixels, Sony’s “Exmor R” back-illuminated CMOS sensor technology, 1920 x 1080 Full HD AVCHD and MP4 format recording, Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, and new features such as Background Defocus that simulates depth of field control, Superior Auto mode that provides low image-noise levels previously only available from DSLR cameras, and Soft Skin mode that recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of imperfections without affecting the rest of the shot. The Cybershot DSC-TX9 features a 3.5-inch 921k resolution LCD touchscreen and a Sony G lens (5x 24-120mm), while the Cybershot DSC-WX5 features a 2.8-inch LCD screen and a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x (25-100mm) wide-angle zoom lens.
The Cybershot DSC-T99 features 14.1-megapixels, a 3-inch touch screen, a 25mm-wide Carl Zeiss lens, and Sweep Panorama mode. All three digital cameras feature Memory Stick PRO Duo and class 4 and above SD/SDHC memory card compatibility.
The Sony Cybershot DSC-TX9 and the DSC-WX5 digital cameras will be available in September for $400 in dark gray and red colors and $300 in silver and black colors, respectively. The Sony Cybershot DSC-T99 will be available in September for $250 in silver, black, pink, green and violet colors.

Interesting – the cameras have just one lens so 3D images are captured via the iSweep Panorama mode. It’s not clear to me if you can only do panoramic 3D images or if you can make regular resolution 3D photos. But I’m curious about how 3D images from these cameras compare to those made with cameras that have two lenses.
