Adobe Lightrooom 4 – Featured User ReviewPhotographyREVIEW.com member Iceman2058, was the first to write a user review for the latest version of Adobe’s ubiquitous photography workflow and RAW photo processing software, Lightroom 4. He wrote a nice, detailed review and since Lightroom is the de facto digital photography workflow standard, it never hurts to give it some more attention.

If you’re a Lightroom user, we need your review, too! User reviews are the foundation of this site and help photographers just like you decide what cameras, software and photo accessories to spend their hard-earned money on.

Leica Announces X2 Premium Compact Camera With 16-Megapixel APS-C Sensor

Leica Announces X2 Premium Compact Camera With 16-Megapixel APS-C SensorLeica just announced the X2, a high-end compact camera with a 16.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. The X2 is basically an updated version of the X1, which was introduced in the fall of 2009. Most of the features and functionality are the same, including the 24mm f/2.8 Elmarit Asph lens. What sets the Leica X2 apart from other high-end compacts is the big APS-C sensor – the same size used in most consumer and prosumer digital SLRs. And the new 16.2-megapixel sensor has 30% more resolution than the X1, which should make a noticeable difference in photo detail and overall image quality.

Fujifilm FinePix XP170 Adds Wireless To Rugged Waterproof Camera Line

Fujifilm FinePix XP170 Adds Wireless To Rugged Waterproof Camera LineAdd another waterproof outdoor camera to the many options available for summer 2012! Fujifilm has added wireless image transfer to the FinePix XP waterproof point-and-shoots – their bestselling line of cameras. The new 14-megapixel Fujifilm FinePix XP170 lets photographers wirelessly transfer photos and videos from the camera to an iPhone, iPad or Android mobile device with a free Fujifilm app. Like Fujifilm’s other XP cameras, the XP170 has “Four-Way Protection.” It’s waterproof to 33 feet (10M), it can handle drops up to 6.5 feet (2M) (Shockproof), it’s freezeproof to 14°F (-10°C) and the waterproof seals also make it dustproof. Fujifilm says it’s got quicker startup and shot-to-shot times than previous XP cameras and it can even shoot 10 frames per second – great for outdoor action photos! The XP170 has a 5x 28-140mm (equivalent) optical zoom with a protective glass cover that has a water repellent coating so you won’t get blurry water drop blobs in your water park photos.

New Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS Premium Waterproof Camera With f/2.0 Lens

New Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS Premium Waterproof Camera With f/2.0 LensJust in time for summer adventures, Olympus is introducing a first-of-its kind premium waterproof, shockproof camera, the 12-megapixel TG-1. The new Olympus Tough TG-1 iHS includes Olympus’ iHS technology, which makes it faster and gives it better image quality. But Olympus took quality a step further than any previous waterproof point-and-shoot by giving the TG-1 a super-bright f/2.0 aperture lens. Most rugged, waterproof point-and-shoot cameras have much slower (“slower” meaning they let less light in) lenses, in the neighborhood of f/3.5 to f/6.0. The TG-1’s 4x 25-100mm f/2.0-4.9 zoom lens sets it apart from the competition – way apart. The faster aperture means better low light photos and based on the way the Olympus reps are talking about the camera, I’m also hoping for better optical quality. I’ve been a fan of waterproof pocket cameras since they first hit the market, 9 or 10 years ago. They’re the best for rainy mountain bike rides, skiing deep powder days, and incriminating hot tub photos. But I’ve always been frustrated by the overall compromised performance and image quality. With the TG-1 iHS, it looks like Olympus may have finally built the waterproof, outdoor camera I’ve been waiting for!

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Studio Sample Photos

Olympus OM-D E-M5 Studio Sample PhotosMy reaction on looking at my first batch of Olympus OM-D E-M5 photos was, “this camera is better than it has any right to be.” I am really amazed by what Olympus has been able to get out of the E-M5’s new 16-megapixel Four Thirds sensor. I assumed we were reaching the point of diminishing returns with the 12-megapixel sensor in the last batch of Olympus Pen Micro Four Thirds cameras (read my Olympus E-P3 pro review). Apparently not, because the E-M5 has seriously surpassed the image quality produced by the last generation of Four Thirds sensors – even ISO 12,800 looks good to me in the right circumstance; and ISO 800 is rock solid. To my eye, ISO 3200 is where noise starts to really show itself. But the images are still sharp, with excellent detail.

Nikon Coolpix AW100 Waterproof Camera Review

Nikon Coolpix AW100 Waterproof Camera ReviewThe Nikon Coolpix AW100 is Nikon’s first rugged, waterproof digital camera. It can handle drops of about 5 feet, it’s waterproof to 33 feet and it’s also freezeproof – perfect for the kind of rough, outdoor funtography that I love! It’s got a 16-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor, full HD video, a 5x zoom lens, 3-inch LCD display and built-in GPS. It even has a nice fast burst mode – 7.1 frames per second for 3 frames. All-in-all, it’s a very compelling little outdoor fun camera that’s ready for pretty much anything. And since I love playing outdoors in the dirt and snow, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one for review.

Think Tank Photo Announces 4-Wheeled Rolling Camera Bag – Airport 4-Sight

Think Tank Photo Announces 4-Wheeled Rolling Camera Bag – Airport 4-Sight - PhotoTo help protect the shoulders and backs of traveling pro photographers, Think Tank Photo will be making a new 4-wheeled camera bag called the Airport 4-Sight. According to Think Tank, the Airport 4-Sight will be the first 4-wheeled rolling camera bag on the market. On smooth surfaces it can be rolled on all four wheels and even turned sideways, making it possible to roll it down the aisle in an airplane. The Airport 4-Sight is designed to fit international carry-on standards and it can accommodate professional digital SLRs along with multiple lenses and accessories. It includes a removable Think Tank Cable Management organizer, a zippered top pocket for your passport and boarding pass, a rain cover; and the two-position handle and wheels are user-replaceable. If I traveled with my camera gear all the time, I’d definitely want to use the Think Tank Airport 4-Sight instead of my usual camera backpack.

Nikon’s New 24-Megapixel D3200 Digital SLRA few days ago, Nikon announced the D3200, a new entry-level digital SLR with a 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor. Yup, you read that right – a 24.2-megapixel entry level DSLR. That’s 10 megapixels more than the 14-megapixel D3100. Besides the 24.2-megapixel DX-format (APS-C) sensor, the Nikon D3200 also has a faster 4 frames per second burst rate, increased ISO 6400 sensitivity, full HD video with manual exposure control and continuous auto focus, a 3-inch 921k-dot LCD display, and a Guide Mode to help less experienced photographers get pro quality photos with all kinds of subjects.

Nikon Announces Fast New 28mm f/1.8 FX-Format Prime Lens

Nikon Announces Fast New 28mm f/1.8 FX-Format Prime LensLast week, Nikon announced a new wide-angle FX-format (full-frame) prime lens, the AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.8G. The large f/1.8 aperture makes it easier to shoot photos and video in low light and use shallow depth-of-field for selective focus. The built-in Silent Wave Motor (SWM) means no distracting auto focus noise in movie mode. On a DX-format digital SLR (APS-C sensor), the 28mm focal length will be effectively converted to 42mm, making it a nice choice for photographers who want a fast, “normal” prime lens.
