Its the firmware guys, I did a 1.2 update and its all gone =]
The update stated that the 1.2 Firmware update was to fix video sound.
Thats exactaly what it did, If yours still does the thudding/thumping sound, Id notify olympus.

I need to right some wrongs in DCB's review. 1) You can fully access the side mesh pockets for water bottles. I carried (2) 1 Liter water bottles, one in each mesh pocket and had no problem accessing them while wearing the bag. 2) The Hip Harnesses cannot be adjusted in any way not matter if it is on your back or off. The length of the waist belt though is full adjustable while wearing the bag. 3) I can't imagine how the carrying handle bounces against the back on your neck because the carrying handle rests on the shoulder straps which are a good 3 inches from the back of ones neck. 4) You can pull the weather flaps back while zippering the bag. 5) As far as comfort this bag is made for taller people. I myself am 6'5" in height and this backpack is the most comfortable camera back pack I have ever owned. It's nice for a change to have a waist belt that actually comes down to your waist and doesn't stop at your chest. I can see someone under 6 feet tall would find this bag uncomfortable.

I do agree that the area to mount a tripod should be improved. You have to buy attachment straps to secure a tripod to the bottom of the bag and the straps cannot hold more then 4lbs. A better design would be to secure a tripod to the side of the bag. The best advice to see if this camera bag is right for you is to try before you buy. Most professional camera stores should have this bag in stock and if not you can always return it.

Carrying handle bounces about on the back of my neck. Hip harness can only be adjusted before it is on the back. Zip weather flaps jam the zips too regular. Has the comfort of a shoe box when worn. Side mesh pockets inaccessable while being worn, and that means you cannot use them for drinking water without taking the thing off. No place to put the tripod without paying for attachments. Attachments need to be bought for a usable water bottle holder. It also shouts out camera equipment too loudly

I've shot 100's of video on my holiday and every video has audio thudding\thumping noise. I've just found out that v. 1.2 firmware fixes the issue. Now I'm wondering if there is a way to fix the thudding\thumping audio in the video clips. if anyone has any advice pliz let me know.

jay, I know EXACTLY what you mean by the thudding noise when making videos using this camera...i thought it was the silicone housing or maybe the strap or finger tapping on the microphone at first but i tested a few times and I still get the thudding noise as well...may have to go to olympus with this.

hi…we bought the olympus SW 1030..but we have some problems with regards to the audio of the video…do you also have the same prob? there’s this thudding sound that comes once in a while in every video that we take. we went to a service center and they insist that it’s normal…but we really doubt that cause it really disrupts the beauty of every video that we take…..

Chris-
This is an old, archived page. You'll be more likely to get a response if you post on our digital cameras forum:
http://forums.photographyreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27
Our Olympus forum:
http://forums.photographyreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=56
Or the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW pro review page:
http://reviews.photographyreview.com/blog/olympus-stylus-1030-sw-review/

But I'll do my best to help you here. I wrote our Olympus Stylus 1030 SW pro review and I've been using the camera since shortly after it was available.

I believe I've seen the streaks you're talking about. If they're what I've seen, then they only show up on the LCD when you're shooting or recording. They aren't actually in the final images or videos. Have you taken photos or videos and had the streaks appear in the final images? Because if you have, that would be something new to me. Sun flare can be a problem if you point the camera at a strong light source. It's hard for me to really evaluate without seeing actual sample photos, though. If you want to share samples, you can post them on the forums and I can look at them there.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I hope this helps. User reviews are the foundation of PhotographyREVIEW.com, so I encourage you to write a review on our 1030 SW user review page: http://www.photographyreview.com/mfr/olympus/8-10-megapixel/PRD_411732_6446crx.aspx

I have just bought the 1030sw was planning it for some adventure travel and really need the video. BUt I have found strange vertical streaky artifacts with the video mode and strong light (direct sunlight). It makes the video function useless to me. Anyone else get this?
