The State Of Sony Alpha DSLRs

Sony Alpha Flagship CameraSony surprised the photography community today by announcing a new flagship 24.81-megapixel, full-frame digital SLR. They actually announced the 24.81-megapixel CMOS sensor a few days ago and people were expecting a flagship DSLR camera to be announced in the fall. But Sony made a major statement by showing a model of the planned flagship camera behind glass. The future top-of-the-line Sony Alpha has yet to be named. But so far, the super high resolution Sony DSLR appears to be the biggest news at this year’s PMA tradeshow.

In the past year Sony has introduced four new digital SLRs. The DSLR-A700 has been available since the fall and the A200 was announced in the beginning of January 2008, at the CES tradeshow. At PMA, Sony announced two more members of the Alpha family, the 14.2-megapixel DSLR-A350 and the 10.2-megapixel DSLR-A300. When Sony announced the first Alpha DSLR, the A100, the photography community wondered how serious they were about jumping into the digital SLR market and whether they could produce and support a viable DSLR camera. I don’t think anyone doubts Sony anymore.

I have had several digital cameras, and this is my first dslr. I love taking pictures with it, especially action shots. Super fast auto focus, choices of programs etc. are found on lots of dslr’s. The reason I bought this one is that it accepts Minolta af lenses and the anti-shake technology is in the camera and not in the lens. This makes additional lenses much more affordable.
