Fujifilm X10 – Studio Sample Photos

Camera Reviews Featured Fujifilm Point and Shoot Samples

Fujifilm X10 - Studio Sample PhotosI’ve been using the Fujifilm X10 compact camera for a couple of weeks now and I’m really impressed. It’s a retro-styled high-end compact camera with a big (for a compact camera) 2/3-inch CMOS sensor. It looks and feels great but it’s the image quality that’s really got my attention. I keep judging my X10 images by digital SLR standards. That says a lot about how good the X10’s sensor is. It’s not noise-free or anything like that. You can definitely see noise at ISO 400 and above. But it’s nice noise that doesn’t seem to take away from my photos. But what’s really got me excited is the camera’s dynamic range. A ridiculous amount of information that can be squeezed from X10 RAW files – especially the highlights. The lens is pretty damn nice, too. The X10 could have me thinking twice about my generally negative attitude towards “compact” cameras that don’t actually fit in my pocket.

Because I’m so impressed with the X10’s RAW image quality, I’m including a couple of before and after samples below. Both were shot RAW and then edited in Lightroom and Photoshop. Note how much highlight detail I was able to recover and how smooth and natural the recovered highlight areas are. There’s no posterization or weird color in the sunset image. You’d never be able to do that with a JPEG file. And the snowboard touring photo would have just been a throwaway if I’d shot it in JPEG mode. The highlights are still pretty blown out but I recovered enough detail that it’s not a throwaway anymore.

I’ve posted a lot more X10 photos in my member gallery here:

The thumbnails below link to full-size Fujifilm X10 studio samples. They were shot RAW, converted to TIFF in Lightroom with no adjustments, and then the graybar, text and logo were added in Photoshop before they were resaved as maximum quality JPEGs. No noise reduction, sharpening or any other adjustments have been made. Feel free to download, print or pixel peep in whatever manner you prefer.

Warning: these files are BIG – be patient while they download.
