Fujifilm FinePix S6800 – 30x Zoom & Manual Controls For $250

Fujifilm News Point and Shoot

Last week, Fujifilm announced a new affordable superzoom camera with a 30x zoom lens, manual shooting modes and full HD video at 60 frames-per-second with stereo sound. The Fujifilm FinePix S6800 uses a 16-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor with sensor-shift image stabilization to get the most out of the big Fujinon 24-720mm f/3.1-5.9 optical zoom. For macro photographers, there’s a Super Macro mode, which allows you to focus as close as 2cm (0.78 inches). Like a DSLR, the S6800 has a mode dial on top with P,A,S,M manual shooting modes as well as Fujifilm’s SR Auto scene recognition mode. It can even shoot high-speed, full-resolution bursts as fast as 8 frames per second – making it a great inexpensive action camera.

I call cameras like the S6800 superzooms because of their huge zoom range. Other people call them “bridge” cameras because they bridge the gap between a digital SLR and a compact camera with an eye-level electronic viewfinder and manual controls giving them the look and feel of a DSLR in a smaller, more affordable package. Whether you’re looking for a big zoom, a real viewfinder (electronic – not optical) or a camera with a lot of control and shooting options the S6800 is a great choice for students, families, small businesses or serious photographers on a budget.

The Fujifilm FinePix S6800 is scheduled to be available in March for US $249.95. Fujifilm will also be releasing the S4800 superzoom at the same time for $229.95. The FinePix S4800 will have the same 30x zoom lens but with a CCD sensor, lower resolution LCD display and 720p video.
