Four World-Class Workshops at Photokina
On Saturday, September 27th, 2008, fotocommunity, the world’s largest online meeting place for photography enthusiasts and pros to share ideas and inspirations, will have its first-ever WorldConvention Day workshops and party at photokina.
2008 Photokina Tradeshow
September 23 to 28 - Cologne, Germany
The Photokina tradeshow takes place every two years in Cologne, Germany. It is the largest photography tradeshow in the world. The 2006 show had 1500 exhibitors and over 160,000 people attended. Photography equipment manufacturers traditionally make some of their biggest announcements at Photokina. This year is no exception, with the announcement of the Nikon D90 - the first digital SLR with video capture; Sony’s first pro digital SLR - the 24.4-megapixel Alpha A900; the long awaited 21-megapixel Canon EOS 5D Mark II; the new Micro Four Thirds camera format; world’s fastest lens, the new Leica Noctilux 50mm f/0.95; and lots of new compact digital cameras, including the exciting Panasonic Lumix LX3 / Leica D-Lux 4. And that’s just what’s been announced to date (September 19th)!

Capacity and Performance of New Lexar Professional UDMA 300x 16GB CompactFlash Card Improves Digital Photography Experience
Lexar announced a new memory card that provides an ideal combination of increased capacity, professional-level performance and reliability, the Lexar Professional UDMA 300x 16GB CompactFlash (CF) card. It is UDMA-enabled (Ultra Direct Memory Access), resulting in exceedingly fast performance and has a speed-rated at 300x, which represents a minimum sustained write speed of 45MB per second. The high capacity of the card allows photographers to store more images and shoot for longer periods without interruption. Lexar will be displaying the Professional UDMA 16GB cards at Photokina 2008 at stand F022 E023 in hall 04.1.

Kodak announced that they will host a panel at Photokina, titled “Pro Photography: What’s Film Got to Do With It?”. The panel will feature internationally renowned photographers Pep Bonet, Det Kempke, Amy Postle and Eddie Soloway, and moderated by Prof. Dr. Rolf Sachsse. It will explore their work, their motivations and the relevance of film in their craft.

With the bi-annual Photokina tradeshow just a month off, the camera announcements are starting to come fast and furious. We’ve had a whole slough of compact camera announcements from Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, Nikon, and Canon. And yesterday it started with the digital SLRs.
