Photographer Alan Davis At Sea Otter Classic

 
Photographer Alan Davis Alan Davis and I have mountain biked together, taken pictures together and worked for each other - me as a freelance photographer and writer when he was editor of the now defunct Mountain Biking magazine; and Alan contributed a pro review for the Lowepro Primus AW camera backpack to this site. We see each other a few times a year at mountain bike races and tradeshows and connect regularly via the magic of the Internet and cell phones. One of our regular meetings is the annual Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California. It’s sort of the season-opener for the North America cycling community. It’s also one of the first events of the year where all the cycling photographers get to check in with each other, hang out, compare notes, and talk some sh**. This year I asked Alan if he’d like to share some of the reality of covering an event like the Sea Otter Classic. My mini-interview with photographer Alan Davis follows…

But there’s no replacement for actually taking pictures alongside other photographers so you can see what they do and compare photos. Plus, it’s fun to meet new people! PhotographyREVIEW.com has had a bunch of Gatherings and everyone always learns a lot and has a great time. There are a growing number of local photowalk groups and blogs around the world. Salt lake City, where I live, has a very active photowalk that gets together about once a month. Recently, a master photowalk blog, Photowalklist.com, was created so that people could find photowalks wherever they live or travel.

SAN DIEGO, May 13, 2008 – Sony Electronics and Reuters Media have teamed up to launch the “Everyday Smiles” photo contest on Reuters.com.

Aspiring U.S. photographers are invited to submit photos of themselves, their friends and their families smiling now through June 16.

The winning photos will be displayed on the Times Square digital billboards, part of Reuters Media’s publishing platform, in the heart of New York’s Times Square.
