Panasonic Lumix GH1 Video Intro

Panasonic Lumix GH1 Video Intro Panasonic announced the Lumix GH1 Micro Four Thirds camera this March at the annual PMA tradeshow. It was the biggest announcement of the show and a solid follow-up to the first Micro Four Thirds camera and last year’s camera of the year, the Panasonic Lumix G1. Like the G1, the GH1 is a “system” camera with changeable lenses and a 12-megapixel Four Thirds sensor. The GH1 is basically the same as the G1 as far as still shooting goes, but it adds 1080p HD video capture and a new silent auto focus, 10x image-stabilized kit lens. Although it looks a lot like a digital SLR the GH1 is smaller and has an EVF (electronic viewfinder) instead of an optical through-the-lens viewfinder.

Panasonic Lumix GF1 Micro Four Thirds Camera Announced

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Micro Four Thirds Camera Panasonic has announced their third Micro Four Thirds camera, the Lumix DMC-GF1. Obviously an answer to the well-received Olympus E-P1 Micro Four Thirds camera, the Panasonic Lumix GF1 is about the same size as its Olympus cousin, but adds a built-in pop-up flash and optional electronic viewfinder (EVF). Like previous Micro Four Thirds cameras, the new GF1 uses a 12-megapixel CMOS sensor. And like the Olympus E-P1, it captures HD video at 1280 x 720 (720p) resolution. Along with the GF1, Panasonic is introducing two new Micro Four Thirds lenses, a compact 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens (40mm equivalent) and Leica’s first Micro Four Thirds lens, the DG Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. (90mm equivalent).

Outdoor And Waterproof Digital Cameras

Rugged Digital Cameras For Backpacking, Cycling, Boating And The Worksite

A whole bunch of new waterproof and shockproof digital cameras have become available since the spring of 2008, when this guide was originally published. I decided to update the article so it refers to the most current (as of August 2009) outdoor-friendly point-and-shoot digital cameras. These are cameras that have some level of moisture resistance and/or can take some physical abuse - cameras made for the beach, camping, fishing, skiing, etc. Right now Canon, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, and Ricoh all offer at least one camera that fits somewhere in the waterproof, shockproof, outdoor point-and-shoot spectrum.

Pentax Optio WP - the original waterproof digital camera.

Hoodman HoodLoupe And Point-and-Shoot Digital Cameras

HoodLoupe And Point-And-Shoot Digital CameraMy friend Uwe Steinmueller, an excellent fine art photographer who runs OutbackPhoto.com, just called to tell me about something he’s very excited about. He called himself a “happy camper” and said he’s “relieved” that he’s discovered an acceptable method for using point-and-shoot cameras. Uwe is very much a detail-oriented photographer. He’s an expert on the subtleties of RAW processing and technical landscape photography. If you know him and his photography, you probably think of him behind a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III on a tripod, not with a tiny point-and-shoot camera in his hands. In the past, he’s told me that point-and-shoot cameras don’t allow him to shoot the way he likes. He wanted the convenience and immediacy of a point-and-shoot, but compact digital cameras just didn’t offer him the control he wanted. So it’s notable and exciting that he’s found a solution.
