Today, Pentax announced the 645D medium-format digital SLR camera.

The Pentax 645D offers super-high-resolution images with approximately 40 effective megapixels. It features a lightweight but strong magnesium-steel alloy body, LCD panels with tempered glass plates for extra protection, a 3.0-inch color LCD monitor with approximately 921,000 dots, a 44 x 33 image sensor, a newly designed shutter unit with a top shutter speed of 1/4000 second that can withstand as many as 50,000 shutter releases, dual SD/SDHC memory card slots, DR (Dust Removal) II mechanism, a high-precision 11-point wide-frame AF sensor, 77-segment multi-pattern metering system, a large optical viewfinder, Custom Image function to control an image’s finishing touches, a multi-mode exposure system (Hyper Program function, Hyper Manual function, Sensitivity-Priority mode, and Shutter/Aperture-Priority mode), and a long battery life which can capture approximately 800 images.

The 645D is dust-proof and has weather-resistant construction with 70 special seals. It also features cold-resistant performance at a temperature as low as –10°C.
