Pentax has announced a new K2000 DSLR kit. They’re going out on a limb here and breaking some rules with a white body instead of the usual tough-guy black or techy silver. If it were available right now, I’d be obligated to call it the White Christmas Special. Unfortunately, I’m denied that opportunity since it won’t actually be in stores until February.
The white K2000 is only cosmetically different from the black K2000 that was introduced in September. It has the same easy-to-use Auto Picture modes, image-stabilized 10.2-megapixel sensor, 2.7-inch LCD, pop-up flash, and 3.5 frames-per-second capture rate. The important thing about the new K2000 kit is it extends the owner’s zoom range with two lenses instead of the one the original camera sold with. The original K2000 kit came with the Pentax DA L 18-55mm AL lens and the AF200FG flash. The new kit leaves out the flash and offers coverage from 18 to 200mm with both the DA L 18-55mm AL and DA L 50-200mm F4-5.6 AL lenses. Naturally, both of the lenses are also white. The two-lens K2000 kit will be available for a limited time, beginning in February. A price has not yet been announced.

a white DSLR? that’s new. =]
Minolta actually made a white Maxxum 35mm SLR back in the early nineties. It was an auto focus body with a power zoom – that was a big deal back then.
