DxO Labs enters the camera comparison business…
Digital photography software maker DxO Labs, has announced a new beta Web site, DxOMark.com. The new site offers “objective RAW-based image quality data to enable fair analysis and comparison of digital cameras.” It’s a free online camera resource and they already have over 50 digital cameras listed. The cameras are mostly digital SLRs as well as some high-end compact digital cameras that support RAW capture. The data is easy to sort and digest and you can compare up to three cameras at once. I did a quick comparison of the Canon EOS 40D and the Canon EOS 50D and was impressed at the amount of information and the quality of the data. Based on my experience with both cameras, the DxOMark.com data seems right on target.
I expect DxOMark.com will quickly become an online authority for data-based, objective digital camera comparison. It should allow the PhotographyREVIEW.com to leave the most of the data collection and analysis to the scientists so we can focus more on the subtleties of camera features, controls, handling, and whether or not a camera helps take pictures, or gets in the way.or not a camera helps take pictures, or gets in the way.

Look forward to seeing the site up and running after it has passed beta. Most sites are a mixture of compact and SLR. It will be refreshing having a SLR specialised review site
