Tamron has announced a $25 mail-in rebate offer on two of their newest lenses, the SP AF17-50mm f/2.8 XR VC Di II LD Aspherical IF (model B005) and SP AF60mm f/2.0 Di II LD IF 1:1 Macro (model G005). The two new lenses are available for Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts and are designed for APS-C size DSLRs. Tamron is also offering rebates on several other products including $70 back on the 18-270mm VC and $60 back on the 18-200mm award-winning all-in-one zooms, $60 back on the SP AF90mm f/2.8 Di 1:1 Macro and $30 back on the super telephoto SP AF200-500mm f/5-6.3 Di LD IF. Tamron announced the SP AF 60mm f/2 Di II LD [IF] Macro for Sony mount, a new macro lens for APS-C size format. This new lens joins the Canon and Nikon versions already available. Tamron announced the development of the SP AF60mm F/2.0 Di II LD (IF) MACRO 1:1 medium telephoto macro lens. It is a life-size macro lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with APS-C size image sensors that offers a fast maximum aperture of F/2.0. The maximum aperture of F/2.0, is one stop faster than the F/2.8 maximum aperture found on conventional macro lenses in the same class.

Tamron has announced a new 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 wide-angle zoom lens for APS-C sensor digital SLR cameras. The Tamron SP AF10-24mm Di II lens has a 2.4x zoom range - the largest in the super-wide zoom range class. It will initially be available for Nikon and Canon digital SLRs with APS-C sensors like the Canon EOS XSi / 450D, recently announced Canon EOS 50D, Nikon D60, and upcoming Nikon D90. Pentax and Sony mount versions will be available at a later date.

Tamron Announces Second Vibration Compensation (VC) Lens With 15x Zoom Range

Hot on the heels of my review for Tamron’s very first Vibration Compensation (VC) image-stabilized lens (Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC Lens Pro Review), Tamron announces they’re working on a second VC lens. This is great news for photographers shooting with Nikon and Canon APS-C sensor digital SLRs. One of the things I said in my review of the Tamron AF28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC lens was that it would be nice to have a shorter, wider version for cameras like the Canon EOS Rebel XSi / 450D or the Nikon D60. Apparently Tamron’s designers were thinking ahead - because the 15x 18-270mm Di II VC lens is exactly what I was asking for. The 15x zoom will be roughly equivalent to a 28-420mm lens on a 35mm camera. And at 3.8-inches (101mm) it will actually be smaller than Tamron’s 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di or the Canon EF 28-135mm IS lens (see lens size comparison in the Tamron 28-300mm VC lens review). The Vibration Compensation image stabilization worked great on the AF28-300mm VC lens I tested and it’s exciting to see that more VC lenses are already in the works, even if they aren’t yet sure about pricing or when the new lens will be available.

With the introduction of two new internal motor lenses last week, Tamron now offers 7 lenses for Nikon digital SLRs that were designed to only use AF-S Nikon lenses. The new Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO and the new internal motor version of the popular SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO were announced last Friday. Tamron’s Nikon mount built-in motor lens lineup now covers a range from 17mm to 300mm and the new AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC lens includes Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) system. The seven Tamron lenses give Nikon owners a nice range of alternatives to Nikkor AF-S glass.
