Pentax Optio WG-2 GPS Rugged Outdoor Camera And Chest Harness For POV Action!

Pentax Optio WG-2 GPS Rugged Outdoor Camera And Chest Harness For POV Action! It looks like 2012 is going to be a big year for rugged, waterproof point-and-shoot cameras. In the past few months all of the major camera makers have introduced a new waterproof camera. The most recent announcement is the new Pentax Optio WG-2 GPS camera. I lost count quite a while ago but Pentax says the WG-2 is their 13th waterproof digital point-and-shoot camera since they introduced the Optio WP in 2005. There are two versions of the new camera, the Optio WG-2 and the Optio WG-2 GPS, which, obviously, has built-in GPS. Among the improvements to the new camera is a faster GPS system with more features and the depth rating has been increased from 30 feet to 40 feet. Pentax also moved to a 16-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor and a new image processing engine. That allowed them to upgrade the video to 1920 x 1080 full HD and should also mean better image quality.

Pentax K-01 Mirrorless Camera – 16MP APS-C Sensor And Boutique Design

Pentax K-01 Mirrorless Camera – 16MP APS-C Sensor And Boutique DesignThey made it official yesterday – the Pentax K-01 compact mirrorless system camera is for real. It has a brand-new, large 16-megapixel APS-C sensor, a 3-inch 921k-dot LCD display and full HD video with selectable frame rates, including 60 frames per second at 720p. Those features alone make the new The Pentax K-01 (pronounced ‘kay- zero-one’) solid competition for other mirrorless camera systems. What makes the Kay Zero One different is the lens mount and the camera’s emphasis on design (hands-on video, below). Instead of making a new mount for the K-01, Pentax decided to use their standard K-mount, making the camera compatible with “25+ million PENTAX K-mount lenses spanning decades.” And instead of designing the K-01 in-house, Pentax commissioned world-renowned industrial designer Marc Newson, “the most acclaimed and influential designer of his generation.” Mr. Newson has designed everything from furniture to yachts but as far as I know, this is his first camera design.

Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Camera Studio Sample Photos

Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Camera Studio Sample PhotosBelow you’ll find our Pentax Option WG-1 GPS studio sample photos. The Pentax Optio WG-1 is the latest rugged, waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof digital camera from Pentax. It’s a 14-megapixel camera with a 5x optical zoom lens and it comes in two versions – one with built-in GPS and one without. I was disappointed in the image quality of the last Pentax waterproof camera (Pentax Optio W90) but I think they have made some improvements with the Optio WG-1. It looks pretty good at low ISO settings, although the image quality declines pretty rapidly after ISO 200. The top two sensitivity settings, ISO 3200 and 6400, are actually reduced resolution so I’d consider the real top sensitivity to be ISO 1600. It also looks like the camera’s exposure isn’t really accurate as the images get brighter as the ISO increases.

Pentax K-5 DSLR – Featured User Review

Pentax K-5 Digital SLR - Featured User ReviewWe’re a little behind on Pentax DSLR reviews. It’s been hard to get digital SLRs for review from Pentax, and let’s be honest – they probably have the smallest digital SLR market share right now. But that doesn’t mean their cameras are no good or that we aren’t interested. When we reviewed the Pentax K10D a few years ago, I really enjoyed using it. But it’s been a while since we had one of their DSLRs in the office. So I was pleased to see this well-written and detailed review for the Pentax K-5, written by new member, Michelle Clair.

If you’re a Pentax shooter, please write a review for your cameras and lenses. Your reviews are the foundation of this site and Pentax needs better representation here:

Pentax Q Mini System Camera Sneak Peek

Pentax Q Mini System Camera Sneak PeakI went to the first-ever PDN Outdoor Photo Expo in Salt Lake City yesterday and got to take a sneak peak at the new Pentax Q mini system camera. Note that I used the word, “mini” – because that’s what the Q is. When I wrote my Pentax Q announcement article, a few weeks ago, I knew it was smaller than any of the other EVIL cameras. But how small – and sexy – it actually is doesn’t really click until you see it in person. I took a whole bunch of pictures of the Q and lenses so you could get a better idea of the camera’s size.

New Pentax Q Interchangeable Lens Camera System

New Pentax Q Interchangeable Lens Camera SystemPentax is now part of the compact system / mirrorless camera movement. Yesterday, they announced their own take on the compact system camera along with 5 lenses for the new system. The 12.4-megapixel Pentax Q takes “compact” a step further than other compact system cameras with a smaller, 1/2.3-inch backlit CMOS image sensor, making it the smallest interchangeable lens camera currently available. The Olympus E-PL2 Micro Four Thirds camera is half-an-inch wider and half-an-inch taller. Even the just-announced Sony NEX C3 mirrorless camera is half-an-inch wider as well as slightly taller and thicker. The Pentax Q is even smaller than the Canon PowerShot G12 and Panasonic Lumix LX5 premium compacts!

Pentax SMC DA* 300mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM telephoto lensLike everyone else, we spend the majority of our time and attention on Nikon and Canon camera gear. But there’s a lot of other great photography equipment out there. So here’s an excellent review for something different. The Pentax SMC DA* 300mm f/4 SDM telephoto lens is compact, light and weather-sealed, making it a great lens for outdoor photographers who want an easy to carry lens with a lot of reach.
