New Panasonic Lumix GF5 – Super Compact Interchangeable Lens Camera

New Panasonic Lumix GF5 – Super Compact Interchangeable Lens CameraPanasonic has a new, consumer-friendly Micro Four Thirds camera designed for people looking to step up from a point-and-shoot to their first interchangeable lens camera. With the exception of a new rubberized grip, the Lumix GF5 looks pretty much just like last year’s GF3. In spite of the similar styling, there are some significant changes on the inside of the GF5. It’s got a brand new 12-megapixel Live MOS sensor and redesigned Venus Engine with two kinds of noise reduction and the camera’s sensitivity has been doubled to ISO 12,800. The GF5 has a 3-inch touchscreen display just like the GF3, but Panasonic increased the resolution of the LCD from 460k to 920k. They’ve also improved the auto focus and burst speed, “making it possible to capture even fast moving subjects clearly.” And new Scene Guide allows less experienced photographers choose camera settings by selecting from a range of professionally shot sample photos. And of course, the GF5 also has full HD video.

Panasonic Lumix ZS20 – Pocket Camera With 20x Optical Zoom

Panasonic Lumix ZS20 – 20x Pocket Superzoom CameraPanasonic has updated their venerable ZS line of pocket superzoom cameras with the new Lumix ZS20. Last year, one of my favorite compact cameras was Panasonic’s wonderful ZS10 pocket superzoom. Panasonic packed so much into the ZS10 – it’s the Swiss Army Knife of point-and-shoot cameras. I took it to Europe last summer and it was the perfect pocket travel camera – able to take pictures of almost anything at a moment’s notice (read my Panasonic Lumix ZS10 review). And now they’ve made a great camera even better. The resolution stays the same but the ZS20 gets an improved sensor, upgraded GPS, better video, and the zoom range has been increased from 16x to 20x. That means with the ZS20 you get a ridiculous 24-480mm optical zoom range that you can drop in the pocket of your pants or shirt instead of having to pack it in trunk of your car.

New Panasonic Lumix TS4 And TS20 Rugged Point-And-Shoot Cameras

New Panasonic Lumix TS4 And TS20 Rugged Point-And-Shoot CamerasPanasonic announced two new rugged outdoor point-and-shoot cameras, today. The 12-megapixel Panasonic Lumix TS4 is their new top-of-the-line, GPS-equipped waterproof, shockproof compact camera; and the Lumix TS20 is an affordable outdoor camera with a sub- $200 price tag. Both cameras are waterproof, freezeproof, dustproof and shockproof. But as Panasonic’s top dog rugged camera, the TS4 gets all the best stuff – full HD video, a 4.6x 28-128mm (equiv.) Leica optical zoom lens, new improved GPS with compass, altimeter and barometer as well as landmark, city and country info all saved in the photo EXIF data. The altimeter also functions as a depth indicator when the camera is used underwater. The TS4 has Panasonic’s excellent iA (Intelligent Auto) shooting mode for simple, intuitive shooting. And for the more advanced photographer Panasonic added full manual exposure control – the first time they’ve included shutter and aperture control in a waterproof camera.

Panasonic Lumix TS3 Rugged Outdoor Camera

Panasonic Lumix TS3 - Rugged Outdoor CameraThe Panasonic Lumix TS3 is one of the best spec’d rugged point-and-shoot cameras available and one of the most popular cameras on PhotographyREVIEW.com. It’s got a 4.6x 28mm wide-angle Leica zoom lens and Panasonic reduced the resolution from 14 to 12-megapixels to improve image quality and it can capture 1920 x 1080 HD video as well as stills. It’s waterproof to 40 feet, freezeproof and can handle drops of about 6 feet – perfect for outdoor photographers who want to keep a point-and-shoot camera in their pocket all the time. It even has built-in GPS so you can tag your images to remember where you took them! Mountain bikers, skiers, skateboarders and other outdoor action sports fans will love the 7 frames-per-second full-resolution burst capability. I got to check out the TS3 in person at the PhotoPlus Expo last week and took some pictures to share with our readers.

Hands-On With The Panasonic Lumix GF3

Hands-On With The Panasonic Lumix GF3The Panasonic Lumix GF3 camera was announced this June and I believe it’s the smallest interchangeable lens camera Panasonic has ever made. Its part of the Micro Four Thirds partnership between Panasonic and Olympus, who both make compact, interchangeable lens Micro Four Thirds cameras. I finally got a chance to see the GF3 in person last week at the PhotoPlus Expo in New York City. And I have to admit, I was surprised by how small it is and I like the softer, rounded body design – especially in red. The GF3 has a 12-megapixel sensor, full HD video, a 3-inch touchscreen LCD display and improved auto focus performance. It isn’t small enough for a pants pocket – especially with a lens mounted. But you could definitely carry it comfortably in a coat pocket or purse.

Panasonic Lumix ZS10 Review

Panasonic Lumix ZS10 Pocket Superzoom Camera ReviewThe Panasonic Lumix ZS10 is what I call a pocket superzoom camera – it fits in your pocket and it’s got a ton of zoom – a 16x 24-384mm image-stabilized Leica zoom lens, to be exact. That’s a crazy amount of lens reach – especially for a camera that fits in the pocket of your Levis. Because they’re so versatile and easy to carry, pocket superzooms like the ZS10 are my favorite kind of point-and-shoot camera. Panasonic introduced the first pocket superzoom, the TZ1, back in the spring of 2006. Since then, the cameras have gotten a lot smaller and better. The ZS10 has a dizzying number of features, including AVCHD full HD video, a 3-inch touchscreen LCD display, built in GPS and 3D shooting. It even has full manual exposure controls for the more experienced photographers who want them!

Panasonic Lumix FZ150 Superzoom Camera

Panasonic Lumix FZ150 Superzoom CameraThe Panasonic Lumix FZ150 is a compact superzoom camera with a 24x 25-600mm (equiv.) zoom lens. One of the things that makes the 12-megapixel FZ150 interesting is that Panasonic actually lowered the resolution compared to the older, 14-megapixel FZ100. Why would they do that? Simple – lower resolution means better image quality. The FZ150 is also faster adding full HD video at 60 frames-per-second for extra smooth movies or slow motion action footage as well as high-speed full-resolution bursts at 12 frames-per-second.

Wi-Fi Enabled Panasonic Lumix FX90 Digital Camera

Wi-Fi Enabled Panasonic Lumix FX90 Digital CameraLast week, Panasonic announced a new point-and-shoot camera with built-in Wi-Fi. The 12-megapixel Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FX90 has a fast 5x f/2.5 24mm wide-angle zoom lens, full HD video and a 3-inch 460k-dot touch screen LCD display. Those features alone add up to a great pocket camera. But of course, what really sets the FX90 apart is its Wi-Fi capabilities.

Panasonic Announces Two Micro Four Thirds Power Zoom Lenses

Panasonic Announces New Micro Four Thirds Power Zoom LensesPanasonic made an interesting announcement last week – two new power zoom lenses for their G-Series Micro Four Thirds cameras. I believe these are the first compact system camera lenses with power zoom – usually that’s a point-and-shoot camera feature. The Panasonic LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 45-175mm/F4.0-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. and the LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH./ POWER O.I.S. zoom lenses both offer powered zoom control via a zoom lever on the lens barrel. Both lenses are also, “Video and Still Optimized, ” meaning they have fast, silent auto focus and optical image stabilization. The PZ 14-42mm is a collapsible “pancake” lens and it’s only about 1-inch tall in its collapsed position.
