October 22 - 24, 2009: The PDN PhotoPlus Expo tradeshow bills itself as “the most important event in the photo industry.” That might be overstating things a bit, but it is the largest and most important consumer photo tradeshow in North America. Every fall, photographers gather at the Javits Center in New York City where they get to take a closer look at new digital cameras, lenses, tripods, camera bags, software, studio lighting and more. There are also more than 100 photography workshops, covering everything from marketing your photography to improving all kinds of photography skills and techniques.

Kingston announced the new MobileLiteG2, which is the second generation of the popular MobileLite Flash card reader. It is a small, portable reader that allows easy data transfer between Flash memory cards and PC or Mac. It features retractable covers on each side to protect the USB connector and the Flash memory cards from damage. Supported card formats include SD, SDHC, microSD, microSDHC, Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo and Memory Stick Micro. 
Lexar announced the new Professional 600x CompactFlash (CF) memory card. It offers a guaranteed minimum sustained write speed capability of 600x (90MB/s) when paired with a UDMA 6 enabled device and increases workflow with minimum sustained read speeds of 533x (80MB/s), or faster when paired with a UDMA 6-enabled reader. 
Lexar is partnering with Adobe to bring consumers special discounts on popular photo and video editing software. With the purchase of Lexar Professional, Platinum II, and Full-HD Video memory cards will include free trials and promotional offers of up to $100 on Adobe software including Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2, Adobe Photoshop Elements 8, and Adobe Premiere Elements 8. 
Eye-Fi announced that they will now offer their Eye-Fi wireless memory cards in the UK starting October 19th 2009. Users can now wirelessly upload photos and videos to their computer and the web, eliminating a lot of time and hassle. 
Sandisk announced the new line of SanDisk Extreme Pro CompactFlash memory cards, ranging from capacities of 16GB to 64GB. The new memory cards feature SanDisk Power Core Controller. This is an advanced memory controller that delivers lightning-fast read and write speeds of up to 90MB/s, doubling the performance from previous SanDisk high-end camera memory cards. 
SanDisk has released the 32GB Extreme SDHC card, the world’s fastest 32 gigabyte SDHC card on the market.
Eye-Fi introduced the Eye-Fi Pro, a new 4GB wireless SDHC memory card with RAW image support. With the Eye-Fi Pro, users can automatically upload images straight from their camera to their computer and the Web with no router or Internet connection required. Also using the new Selective Transfer feature, users can now select which photos or videos they want to wirelessly transfer from their camera to their computer or the Web. 
This year’s Photo Marketing Association tradeshow, otherwise known as PMA, takes place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from March 3rd to 5th. Every spring all the major camera, photography software and photo accessory manufacturers assemble to show off their latest wares. Today, SanDisk announced its new faster and smaller ImageMate memory card readers, the ImageMate All-In-One reader and the ImageMate Multi-Card reader.
Pretec has announced a 32GB CFast Storage Card. It incorportates a high speed SATA interface in a CF card sized form. The 32GB Pretec card is capable of transfer speeds of up to 160MB/s which is about 300% faster than the fastest CF card today. A 64GB capacity will be released soon.
The SD Association has announced a new Secure Digital memory card specification. The SDXC (eXtended Capacity) memory card will be able to store as much as 2 terabytes of data with read/write speeds of 104 MB per second and a target speed of 300 MB per second. That’s right - 2 TB of storage and 300 MB per second transfer on a tiny little SD memory card like the one you have in your point-and-shoot digital camera. For photographers, this could be the biggest announcement from the 2009 CES tradeshow.
