To update an announcement made last year, Sony today said it will bundle new versions of Picture Motion Browser software and Image Tracker software with its GPS receiver for digital imaging products.

With this new software, the GPS-CS1KASP device can trace the GPS coordinates of your Handycam video footage to an online map, courtesy of Google. The product will continue to support GPS tagging of digital still photos.

2008 PMA Tradeshow
The annual Photo Marketing Association tradeshow starts next week. PMA is the biggest camera and photography tradeshow in North America and takes place every spring. Last year there were nearly 700 exhibitors and over 20,000 attendees. It’s in Las Vegas again this year so camera company execs, PR and marketing folks, and camera shop owners and employees can get out of the office and party in Vegas for a few days.

Sony expects to shake up the industry with the introduction of its 2008 line of DVD Handycam camcorders featuring hybrid and hybrid-plus movie recording.

“People have been drawn to the DVD category because they are so easy to use,” said Kelly Davis, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics. “Our 2008 line offers greater convenience through multiple recording options so you don’t have to worry about running out of media or missing a moment.”

NEW SONY HARD DRIVE CAMCORDERS OFFER LONG RECORDING TIMES AND ENHANCED FUNCTIONALITY

LAS VEGAS(CES Booth 14200), Jan. 6, 2008 – Sony is debuting four hard drive Handycam camcorders with sleek bodies and robust capacities to capture life’s longer moments.

Generally, most of the models are more compact than last year’s models. The 60GB DCR-SR220 and DCR-SR85 camcorders deliver continuous recording times (LP mode) of up to 41 hours, while the 40GB DCR-SR65 and 30GB DCR-SR45 models provide up to 27 and 20 hours, respectively.
