Another Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has come and gone. Spread out before us are all the hyped new gadgets that we’ll no doubt have to wait months to get our hands on. As much as innovation is the focus, so is upping the technological ante. This year one of those antes was digital camera zoom range, once again redefining the term “superzoom.” Olympus and Kodak said, “I see your 18x zoom lens, and raise you 6x.”

Sony introduced the Cybershot DSC-G3 digital camera, the world’s first Wi-Fi enabled digital camera that can upload photos and videos to the Web through any AT&T public hotspot, such as hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and airports, due to its built-in Web browser.

Sony introduced two new Webbie HD cameras, the MHS-CM1 and MHS-PM1,  which allow for quick video and photo uploads to the web - perfect for social networking!

The MHS-CM1 features a 2.5-inch LCD screen that swivels up to 270 degrees, 5X optical zoom, a slim horizontal design that fits naturally in your palm, 5-megapixel still photos and the ability to capture high definition video (1440×1080/30p).

Sony announced four new digital picture frames, the Sony DPF-X1000, DPF-V1000, D92 and D82 models.

The DPF-X1000 and DPF-V1000 frames feature 10-inch super clear LCD and TruBlack technology, auto dimmer, a new alarm clock, a variety of slide-show features, multiple auto power setting, and an auto orientation sensor. The DPF-X1000 has 2GB of storage and comes in black with wood trim while the DPF-V1000 can store thousands of photos on its 1GB internal memory and comes in black with silver trim.

Sony announced four new high-definition, hard disk drive Handycam camcorders, the HDR-XR520V, HDR-XR500V, HDR-XR200V and HDR-XR100. Sony also announced three new standard-definition, hard-drive models, the DCR-SR87, DCR-SR67 and DCR-SR47.

Sony introduced a new flash memory based, high-definition camcorder, the HDR-CX100. In addition, Sony introduced three standard-definition flash memory models, the DCR-SX40, DCR-SX41, and DCR-SX60.

The HDR-CX100 features a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 10X optical zoom lens, 2.7-inch Clear Photo LCD Plus screen, 8GB of embedded memory and the option for Memory Stick PRO Duo media, Smile Shutter and Face Detection technology, and the ability to preserve your memories in high resolution by capturing 1920×1080 high-definition video and 4-megapixel photos. Sony announced the new Cybershot DSC-W220. This 12 megapixel camera features Intelligent Scene Recognition, Dynamic Range Optimizer, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4X optical zoom lens with 30 millimeter (equivalent) wide angle view, Optical SteadyShot, and Smile Shutter. Images can be stored in the 15MB internal memory and an optional Memory Stick media card.

Sony announced two new DVD Handycam camcorders, the DCR-DVD850 & DCR-DVD650. The models include 60X optical zoom, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lenses, and 1/8-inch 680K-pixel CCD imagers. The camcorders feature flexible recording to different media. The DCR-DVD650 camcorder has hybrid recording on three-inch DVD discs and Memory Stick PRO Duo media cards. The DCR-DVD850 camcorder features Hybrid Plus recording with an additional 16GB of embedded memory for up to 11 additional hours of LP mode recording time.

Pretec has announced a 32GB CFast Storage Card. It incorportates a high speed SATA interface in a CF card sized form. The 32GB Pretec card is capable of transfer speeds of up to 160MB/s which is about 300% faster than the fastest CF card today. A 64GB capacity will be released soon.

It looks like some of the high-speed capture technology from Casio’s award-winning Exilim EX-F1 and Exilim EX-FH20 is starting to trickle down into Casio’s pocket digital cameras. Today at CES, Casio announced the Exilim EX-FS10 and EX-FC100. Thanks to Casio’s new Exilim Engine 4.0, both cameras have a high-speed 30 shot-per-second burst rate as well as a high-speed movie mode that can capture video at up to 1000 frames-per-second.

Olympus has announced three new digital cameras to its FE series, the FE-3000, FE-3010 and FE-5010. The FE-3000 features 10 megapixels of resolution, 3x Optical Zoom, and Intelligent Auto. The super-slim FE-3010 features 12 megapixels of resolution, Intelligent Auto, and Advanced Face Detection. The FE-5010 features 12 megapixels of resolution, 5x Optical Zoom, a 2.7-inch, high resolution LCD, Dual Image Stabilization, and Advanced Face Detection.

The SP-590 UZ features 12 Megapixels, 26x Optical Wide-Angle Zoom, Dual Image Stabilization and Ultra High-Speed Sequential Shooting. Its has a versatile zoom lens that can capture images at virtually any distance, a delicate flower close up to wide-angle photographs of friends posing at the Grand Canyon, and even images shot from the back row of the stadium that look like they were taken courtside.
