Adobe Lightroom 2.0 Review

August 1st, 2008 by drg

Conclusion

Beginning with using the 2.0 Beta and now 48 hours plus into the final release it is clear Adobe is continuing with a big commitment to this platform. The programs that make up this release are obviously modular and are clearly visible in the directory structure for release 2.0. This means easier upgrades and no need to reload/install a new complete version of the Lightroom for each release. Individual customized modularity in the Lightroom environment is now possible.
I break my work into separate catalogs that each range from a few hundred to several thousand photographs. Every catalog opened has successfully converted to Lightroom 2.0. This new version of Lightroom feels significantly faster and I am ready to play on a 64-bit multi-processor. Fewer reasons exist for many files to be externally edited. In this initial test period, it was enjoyable to see how much work could be performed without leaving Lightroom 2.0.

Adobe has taken a big step forward with Lightroom 2.0 towards being the only program a digital photographer needs.

  1. Adobe Lightroom 2.2 Update Says:

[...] Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a professional imaging workflow software package. It’s not a replacement, but rather a compliment to Photoshop. It’s used for organizing and managing large quantities of images, converting RAW files, and batch processing for print, Web, and other types of output. For more on what Lightroom can do and how it fits into the photographer’s workflow, read our Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 pro review. [...]
