The new Canon PowerShot S90 showed up at my door last week. The S-Series cameras have been missing from the Canon PowerShot lineup for a few years. Essentially, the S-Series offers G-Series image quality and performance in a pocket-sized package. Like previous S-Series PowerShot digital cameras, the Canon S90 has the same 10-megapixel sensor as its big brother, the G11. For people who want G11 image quality on the trail, in their pocket, in the briefcase or in their purse, it’s the camera to have.

Yesterday there was a steady stream of blog posts and discussions on forums and social networking sites about a “ghosting” issue with the new Canon EOS 7D digital SLR. I’m not exactly sure who discovered the problem but I first saw it in a Twitter post linking to a British Journal Of Photography news post (read the BJP post). The gist of the problem is that when you use the camera in burst mode, subtle remnants of a previous image can end up in the subsequent frame. Canon has acknowledged the problem and say they’re working on a firmware fix.

Fujifilm announced the new Remora Slave Flash Kit that is compatible with Fujifilm’s full range of digital compact cameras and underwater housings. The Remora Flash is not only suited to daytime diving, but its performance is also essential during night dives with a powerful guide number of 20. It also has an extra wide angle flash beam angle of 60 degrees so a bigger area can be illuminated underwater to meet the needs of both macro and wide-angle photography. The Remora Flash features manual light output range of 10% to 100%, so the amount of flash can be fine tuned to achieve a correct exposure for the perfect shot. It is depth rated to 55m/180 feet. Today, onOne Software has announced FocalPoint 2, an Adobe Photoshop plug-in for simulating depth-of-field and selective focus. FocalPoint 2 helps photographers create an authentic out-of-focus look with aperture shaped highlights with the new blur algorithm that accurately matches the blur a real lens would create. Lensbaby announced two new additions to their Optic Swap System, the Fisheye Optic and Soft Focus Optic.

The new Lensbaby Fisheye Optic allows photographers to turn their Lensbaby Composer or Muse into a fisheye lens by swapping out the installed optic and dropping the new Fisheye Optic into the lens.
