Normally, a manufacturer rebate wouldn’t really be news. But with the current financial situation and the big discounts Canon is offering, I thought it was appropriate to pass this along. Some of Canon’s best glass is included in this rebate, too: the EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM, the EF-S 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 USM, the EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM, and even the brand new EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. The rebates are big enough to be worth the effort, and we can all use a new lens.

FotoMagico 2.6 adds support for Adobe Lightroom 2 & free Plug-in for Aperture
Boinx Software has released an update for their award-winning photo presentation software, FotoMagico. FotoMagico 2.6 for professional photographers, now comes with an plug-in for Aperture which allows users to select photos from within Aperture and to export them directly to FotoMagico. FotoMagico 2.6 also now supports Adobe Lightroom 2 libraries so users can also seamlessly access GarageBand songs, iLife sound effects and media libraries from iTunes or media files from any other folder on their hard disk.

We’ve got the new Nikon D90 digital SLR in-house and we’re working on a detailed review. In case you’ve been in a cave and don’t know, the D90 is the first DSLR to offer video capture - 720p high-def, to be exact. The D90 has a 12.3-megapixel DX-format (APS-C) CMOS sensor, 3-inch LCD, EXPEED processing, and sensitivity to ISO 6400.

Panasonic has announced pricing for the first Micro Four Thirds digital camera, the LUMIX DMC-G1. The Panasonic Lumix G1 will be available for $799.95 in mid-November as a kit with the LUMIX G VARIO 14-45mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. kit lens. You can choose from red, blue, and black G1 camera bodies. A 45-200mm f/ 4.0-5.6 LUMIX G VARIO MEGA O.I.S. Micro Four Thirds telephoto zoom lens will also be available for $349.95. Today’s press release also says that Panasonic has more lenses and a second Micro Four Thirds camera with HD video capability in the works for 2009. A Micro Four Thirds camera with HD video could be the ultimate high-end consumer camera!

((Apologies for this late posting, the delay was compounded by several issues on my end.)
Last week at HP’s Annual Imaging and Printing conference, this quote immediately grabbed my attention: “I find myself taking more pictures than ever before, but seeing fewer of them…”
If this quote describes you too, then apparently we’re in good company. Sure, we can see every shot from someone’s vacation online, but online isn’t necessarily the best way to see or present photographs. Online is great for editing and quick viewing and it’s where most shots will end up, but for more meaningful images it’s just a step on the path to offline photo-enjoyment.
