The PhotoPlus Expo camera tradeshow show that takes place every fall in New York City. I haven’t attended PhotoPlus for a few years and I’m excited to be going this year. I love that it’s in New York City because New York is the center of the commercial photography world. It’s also just a few blocks from the B&H Photo store, which takes up one full city block. Any photographer who visits New York City should work in a trip to B&H. Unlike the PMA show in the spring; the PhotoPlus Expo is open to everyone. It has more demos, you can actually buy stuff on the show floor, and I always get to see friends from the PhotographyREVIEW.com community.

Digital cameras and other photo products announced in the late summer or fall are usually shown for the first time at PhotoPlus. It’s a good place to see what will be hot in the upcoming Holiday Season. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on Nikon’s new D3 and D300 digital SLRs, the 21-megapixel Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III and the EOS 40D digital SLRs, and this will also be my first chance to take a look at the new Sony A700 DSLR. Nikon also has new lenses and just today Canon announced two prototype lenses they’ll be showing at PhotoPlus. There’s even going to be new film – Kodak just announced a new black-and-white emulsion, T-Max 400. Besides all kinds of photo gear, the PhotoPlus Expo has daily photography seminars on all kinds of photo subjects, for all levels of photographers.

I’ll be taking photos, collecting info, and posting mini-reviews on everything I can. Let me know if there’s anything in particular you want me to check out. The show starts on Thursday, but I’ll be arriving in New York on Tuesday evening. So make sure to check in tomorrow night (Tuesday, Oct. 16th) for any early news…
